These are the same beleifs I have developed over the last few years. I am only sixty pages into the book, but I agree with almost all I have read. The only problem I have is with the first word of the title. It seems to me the word god equates to a divine spirit which is what got us into this mess in the first place. Wouldn't spirituality without religion be more accurate.

I am deeply interested in this philosophy. I have always had this theory, and it has widely become manifest through Sankara Saranam's book "God Without Religion". It focuses on a physiological approach moreso than organized religions found today. I would love to immediately learn more, and I recommend this practice to anyone who is questioning their religious faith.

Dear Mr. Saranam,
I read "Autobiography of a Yogi" in 1974, and quickly signed up for SRF's lessons by mail (no internet back then!). Paramahansa Yogananda has been my guiding light ever since, and I thank him for continuing to influence wonderful souls like yourself. "God Without Religion" makes so much sense to me. Thank you for writing it.
Clay Freeman [10/26/05, 10:01 PM] writes:
Sankara,

I've almost finished (my first) reading of "God Without Religion". I add "(my first)" because I know I'll be referring it to repeatedly to understand the concepts and to learn the techniques offered for self-expansion.

I have long-sought to make the 'cosmic connection' that I sense (intuit, I suppose?) is there to be made, but have met with little success so far. Clearly, any thinking being sees the irrationality (and 'mean-spiritedness') of all the 'religions'. Various "Eastern" meditation techniques - Zazen/Taoist/Yogic, etc. - have afforded me a respite from the rough&tumble 'real-world', but have not brought me closer to knowing 'who I really am'.

Your work is the first, in my 65 years of seeking to understand "What's this all about, really?" that seems to strike a chord in all levels of my being - intellectual, emotional, intuitive - that makes real sense.

May we all realize, eventually, that we are all one. Thanks for nudging me in that direction.

Clay in Honolulu

For many years my presentation to support my heartfelt belief has been to say, if we (humanity) were being attacked by, say, aliens, we would not recognize any "separating barriers" of position, race, religion, language, or other reasons we have found to judge ourselves better than anyone else ....we would have a common enemy, and would need each other. No matter who we are, if I break a bone, it will be the identical bone in every single other human body on this planet. To me this is reassuring. "We are all in this together!" Thankyou from Phoenix.

In a world where seekers of the truth just keep coming up with organizations asking for money that some seekers just don't have, in return for nothing that is real, it is nice to find anyone who will teach even a little of what they've learned just to help others on the way. Aloha,
I was baptized in the Roman Catholic faith and have practiced this religion almost all of my life. But I have been searching for the Truth almost all my life. I feel like an outcast because of what I really believe and feel within me. I really need God in my life but I don't want to be indoctrinated by false truths and "narrow-mindedness". I believe that God is both man and woman. I don't believe in the patriarchal system that we all are trapped in. I believe that sexual identity has nothing to do with gender. I also beleive that some of the doctrines, verses and rituals that are taught by most organized religions are not all divinely inspired but are somehaow tainted by man's own prejudices, fears, and political and economic agendas. I believe in the universal humanity and fellowship of all mankind. Thank you for being here for people like me. I do want to be more enlightened.
Mahalo,
Grace

I am very excited by this title, for it alone reveals to me that, hopefully, we are seeking God rather than religion, and that we are awakening to Truth that has always been available to us both individually and collectively.

I really-and-truly now know that I have been indoctrinated by 'zealots', and other so-called 'seekers of truth'! I know there are truly good souls within those types of groups too! I just can't continue to place God in a box and consider that I have some kind of 'corner on' any of what God intends for the future. I have learned that the only time I am at peace is when I love God, man, and self; begin to exude that belief from a point of overflowing!!! Thank you so much for this site, (to which I only happened-upon)...this was divine order! I need to think less about "evil" and permeate the world with good and with the truth of the power to love, and to begin healing from indoctination & lies! I will read the new book too :o) Again... Thanx! CRB p.s.-I never tried yoga because I felt it was a form of seeking 'self' not God. "Self" has always been a hated concept by leaders and myself too, (hard to love & hate at the same time); it left me totally self-centered & miserable!!!

Magick! After studing the aspects of God and religion one does come to the conclusion that religion is man made and the words of THE book/s are man made. The horrors of the religious zealots are cruel beyond words. The things that are done in the name of a god mystify me. We no longer respect anything this beautiful universe offers us. We argue over who has the right religion - and, if it does not reflect the individuals self proclaimed view then it becomes heritical. Findng the truth is a great adventure, it opens every channel to a life appreciation as well as respect for everything that surounds our lives which includes nature and the universe/s. I'm very happy to see books like this arrive, and I sincerely hope that everyone takes the time to read and reflect on this realistic concept.

I so agree that "religion" has been the scourge of this planet. God created "man", "man" created religion.

I believe we are all fragments of the Creator, endowed with the same Love, Power, peace, etc. that the Creator has. I also believe that the reason we have not accepted this is that we are afraid of the responsibility it entails, not realizing that if we have the same characteristics Source has, then we are free from any fear of responsibility. Thank you for your contribution to the world's evolution/enlightenment. Katy

Just finished reading the book. Such a blessing and help. Was raised a Roman Catholic and had many questions over the years. Some of their dogma just didn't make sense to me. Such as confession, eucharist, Jesus' ascension, resurrection of the body after death, Jesus being son and God. About a year ago I had my name removed from the parish registry. After intensive study by taking a bible seminar and reading tons of books I no longer have any use for organized religion, especially this christian religion. Starting this intensive journey almost two years ago I never invisioned it to be an emotional rollercoaster. I am purged now of this deception of a religion.
Thank you Sankara Saranam for providing this book and, a friend of mine for recommending it to me recently.

Robert Grace [5/26/05, 12:51 PM] writes:

There was a time when my own country's christian religion was all and all. In the last 28 years, there was an intense effort to understand all exoteric, mesoteric and esoteric meaning of all religions and all things. Once any one religion is understood through knowledge, it elevates the rationality of the soul and spirit to safe heights of consciousness where one cannot go back nor can one make the mistakes of war nor of belief systems.

We learn to understand all things and believe nothing except the power of your own prayer upon your own inner psyche. Whatever you wish to achieve, simply imagine it.

All religions of earth follow a juxtaposed, yin/yang, toroidal path upon a toroidal earth and are interwoven with each other. Complimentary religions are nothing to fight over, as only the civilized understand.

Fantastic! No doubt there will be a need to organize and promote these concepts. Perhaps we could even infiltrate a political party and make this the official non-religion in the U.S.?

I am a Christian Qabalist. I do not subscribe to the notion that belief in Jesus means I must close my mind to various techniques used to attain enlightenment. I have never before attempted mastery of pranayama so I can't yet voice an educated opinion on the subject. It is my hope that with the resorces made available through this web site I will be able form an opinion by scientific experimentation with yoga techniques. I am truely greatfull for the resourses offered freely by this non profit org. Thank you.

Thanks for the free information and the effort to provide such to everyone for free. May God bless this institution with many years of growth. I study and teach some forms of pranayama and like the myriad of ways that this practical form of yoga can be used. I even do pranayama when I use the bathroom (2). If we breath the proper way we can live a cleaner life enhanced by something as simple as breathing through the nose. I fill my glass from bottom to top and drink from top to bottom, the same way I breath. Thanks again, Love Jared/Da Fire.
